The badges
A badge is a dated record of something somebody did here. It is written once and kept, so it still reads true after the numbers behind it have moved.
This is all of them, with what earns each one. Nothing on this page says who holds what or how far along anybody is, and no page on the site counts badges or ranks people by them. A badge you have earned appears on your profile and on the page other members see of you, and a badge about a game appears on that game's page.
- Beat easy A win over the computer player called easy, which looks at 400 positions before each move, on that many different games. A win over a stronger named player counts on that game too. In steps, at 1, 5, 10 and 25.
- Beat medium A win over the computer player called medium, which looks at 1,600 positions before each move, on that many different games. A win over a stronger named player counts on that game too. In steps, at 1, 5, 10 and 25.
- Beat hard A win over the computer player called hard, which looks at 6,400 positions before each move, on that many different games. A win over a stronger named player counts on that game too. In steps, at 1, 5, 10 and 25.
- Beat hardest A win over the computer player called hardest, which looks at 200,000 positions before each move, so it is the slowest, on that many different games. A win over a stronger named player counts on that game too. In steps, at 1, 5, 10 and 25.
- Giant-killer A win over a computer player whose rating going into the game was at least 300 points above yours, once your own rating had settled.
- Held the top A draw against this game's strongest computer player, as it stood when the game started.
- The grand tour A win over the strongest computer player on one game of each kind the rated games cover, for every question a kind answers, such as how the game is won or how big the board is. The kinds are the ones the library held when it was earned.
- Every which way Wins that between them ended in 4 different ways. A game somebody resigned, or one resigned after thirty days without a move, is not an ending.
- The long way round A finished rated game that reached the move limit, once.
- And another thing A rated game you lost, a game of the same rules started again from that board rather than from anywhere else, and a win in it. Once.
- Well read Rated games you have finished, using between them that share of the building blocks the rated games draw on, which is the five ways a piece can move and the special rules. A building block counts once however many games use it. In steps, at 50%, 75% and 100%.
- The whole toolbox Games you designed that passed the playability check, drafts included, using between them that share of every building block the rules offer, which is the five ways a piece can move and the special rules. A building block counts once however many of your games use it. In steps, at 25%, 50% and 75%.
- Both hats A win over some game's strongest computer player, and a game of your own that passed the playability check, even as a draft. Whichever of the two comes second earns it.
- Ancestor A game of yours that passed the playability check, even as a draft, built from a game another person designed. Building on your own game, or on a game that came with the site, earns nothing.
- Descendant Another person saved a game built from this game of yours, and theirs passed the playability check. It counts from the save, while it is still a draft, and does not wait for it to be published.
- Family tree Somebody built a game from this game of yours, a third person then built a game from theirs, and both of those passed the playability check, drafts included.
- Speaks from experience A rating you gave a game after finishing 3 rated games on it, on that many different games. The stars you gave are not read, and rating a game again earns nothing. In steps, at 1, 5, 10 and 25.
- Crowd pleaser 5 different people have finished a rated game on it, and 5 or more rated it, at a mean of 4.0 stars or better. On a game somebody here designed, their own games and their own rating are left out.
- Proved the clanker wrong What Crowd pleaser reads, and a score under 0.65, its whole likely range included. The score is quoted as it stood on the day, with its run count and scoring rules version, and is compared with nothing since.
- Beat the maker A win in a rated game between two people, over the member who designed that game, on the game itself. Once per game for each winner. A practice game, a game they resigned or left, and a game on a game that came with the site earn nothing.
Only rated games count — a practice game, a game somebody resigned and a game resigned after thirty days without a move count for none of these. Nothing here expires and nothing is taken back.
