los alamos with a closed edge

6 × 6 board · 5 kinds of piece

Chess on a six-by-six board without bishops, in which only the king can take. Every other piece, pawns included, moves as usual but shoves instead of capturing: moving onto an enemy piece pushes it one step further the way the mover was going (a knight's step being its whole jump, so a knight's shove sends a piece a knight's jump on), and only if the square there is empty. The edge of the board is closed: a shove that would push a piece off it is not allowed, so nothing is ever lost to a shove, and a piece leaves the board only when the enemy king takes it. Shoving is how you put the other side's pieces where you want them: away from the squares round their king, into a corner, into each other's way, or next to your own king to be eaten. Even a king can be shoved, and a shove threatened on a king is check. So the game is played for position, and won by checkmate, while the one piece that can take has to leave shelter to do it. A piece just shoved may not shove straight back on its owner's next move.

Not measured yet, so it has no score. The score is how interesting a game looks when the computer plays it, out of 1.
