9 × 9 board · 3 kinds of piece

Rock, paper, scissors made into a board game. On a nine by nine board every piece moves alike, one square in any of the eight directions like a chess king, and the pieces differ only in what they may take: a rock takes scissors, a paper takes a rock, scissors take a paper, and nothing takes its own kind or the kind that beats it. So every piece is both hunter and prey, and whether a piece is safe depends entirely on what stands next to it. The goal is a race: the first player to get any one piece into the corner opposite their own wins, as does taking every enemy piece, and a player with no legal move loses. A defender can wall its own corner with a piece the attacker cannot take, or chase the attacker with the one kind that can, and either way it must stay ahead of the attacker on the road to that corner. There is no draw by repetition; a game is drawn when 200 turns in all (100 by each player) go by without a capture. The game is webgoatguy's, the end of the design process he published on YouTube as 'Turning Rock Paper Scissors into a strategy game', with the rules he states in a video about the finished game. Each side's three rocks, four papers and three scissors are his counts; their arrangement near each side's own corner is read from the video's pictures, and the 300-turn cap is this library's, not his.

Score 0.778 out of 1, the average of four runs, under scoring rules version 12, measured 19 October 2026. The score is how interesting a game looks when the computer plays it, out of 1.
