wolf hunt

8 × 8 board · 7 kinds of piece

Chess with four wolves that belong to neither player, and a price on their heads. Each wolf walks its own five-square loop on a wing, stepping on after every move either player makes and eating whatever piece it lands on; no king may stand where one will step next. Only a knight can take a wolf, and each one earns its taker a point. Checkmate still wins, but a game that reaches the move limit or goes too long without progress goes to the player with more points. The point turns a hazard into a quarry: without it, wolves like these are something to go round and nearly every game ends with one still walking; with it, the computer players hunt them from the opening, take about three times as many, and two games in five end with the board cleared. The cost is a knight's time, spent on a point that counts only if nobody is mated first.

Score 0.890 out of 1, the average of four runs, under scoring rules version 12, measured 19 October 2026. The score is how interesting a game looks when the computer plays it, out of 1.
