5 × 5 board · 6 kinds of piece

Martin Gardner's 5x5 minichess, published in Scientific American in 1969 and weakly solved as a draw in 2013. The full chess army minus one bishop-pair partner and the second rook file, packed onto twenty-five squares. Pawns never double-step, there is no castling and no en passant, so the game is chess with every rule that needs room removed.

Score 0.653 out of 1, the average of four runs, under scoring rules version 12, measured 19 October 2026. The score is how interesting a game looks when the computer plays it, out of 1.
