6 × 6 board · 5 kinds of piece

The 6x6 board the MANIAC I computer played in 1956, the first game of chess-like complexity a machine ever won against a human. Bishops are dropped for want of room, pawns never double-step, there is no castling and no en passant, and a pawn may not promote to a piece that does not exist.

Score 0.816 out of 1, the average of four runs, under scoring rules version 12, measured 19 October 2026. The score is how interesting a game looks when the computer plays it, out of 1.

Play it here in the browser, against the computer, with no account needed.
